Ryanair chief calls EU Commission chief von der Leyen 'useless'
Original: Ryanair-Chef nennt EU-Kommissionspräsidentin von der Leyen "nutzlos"
Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary has publicly called European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen 'useless', sharpening his long-running criticism of EU policymakers. The insult drew wide attention across European media and political circles, given Ryanair's prominence as Europe's largest low-cost airline and its frequent disputes with Brussels over regulation, taxes and environmental rules affecting the aviation sector.
Why now: O'Leary's blunt public attack on the EU's top official is provocative and touches ongoing tensions between airlines and EU regulators.
