Nvidia and PreussenElektra are studying whether decommissioned German nuclear power plant sites can be converted into large AI data centers. Reusing existing grid connections and infrastructure could cut development time significantly, as the AI boom drives demand for power-ready locations. The idea of repurposing old energy sites for computing is drawing attention across the tech and energy sectors.

Why now: The AI data center boom has created urgent demand for sites with existing grid capacity, making nuclear plant conversions a timely idea.
