Universities urged to adopt three-year degree programmes
Original: My university is proposing to offer shorter degrees. Others should follow suit
A US university is proposing to offer shorter, three-year degrees, and the author argues other institutions should follow. The idea, promoted in a Washington Post opinion piece, frames shorter degrees as a way to cut costs and time to graduation. Commenters are debating whether condensed programmes genuinely serve students or simply reduce the value of a degree.
Why now: Rising tuition costs and debate over the value of traditional four-year degrees are keeping alternatives like three-year programmes in the spotlight.
