Claim spreads that Putin gave US a 48-hour ultimatum

Original: #BREAKING MAJOR ALERT: PRESIDENT PUTIN HAS JUST STATED ON RUSSIA STATE MEDIA: "AMERICA HAS 48 HOURS, NO MORE DELAYS, NO

A claim circulating on social media attributes an ultimatum to President Vladimir Putin, in which he allegedly warned on Russian state media that the United States has 48 hours before 'the largest airstrike the world has ever seen.' The quoted statement is written in all-capital, sensational language typical of engagement bait, and there is no confirmation from Russian state media or any official source that Putin made such a remark. No verified footage or transcript has been produced.

Why now: The claim plays on fears of an imminent US-Russia military confrontation, but its authenticity is doubtful.
