Ukrainian prosecutors suspect two collaborators working with the Russian-installed administration in occupied Donetsk of unlawfully deporting 31 children to Russia, reportedly under the pretext of sending them for "treatment". The case adds to ongoing proceedings over the forced transfer of Ukrainian children, an issue already the subject of International Criminal Court arrest warrants, and has drawn renewed attention to child deportations in the war.
Why now: Forced deportation of Ukrainian children is a prosecuted war crime and each new suspect keeps the issue high on the war agenda.
