Original: Qwen 4 Now Needs China’s Permission
Alibaba's Qwen 4, the next version of its open-source Qwen AI model family, is reportedly subject to Chinese government approval before release. The claim suggests new regulatory oversight of the model's launch, raising questions about how China's AI rules affect open-weight releases and international developers who rely on Qwen. Discussion is focused on what the approval requirement means for the model's availability and for the broader open-source AI ecosystem.
