Proton Launches Map Tracking Flock Surveillance Cameras
Original: Proton Flock Camera Map
Proton, the Swiss privacy company behind Proton Mail, has launched a tool that maps locations of Flock surveillance cameras. Flock Safety operates automated license plate reader cameras across many US cities and neighborhoods, drawing criticism from privacy advocates who argue the network enables mass tracking of drivers' movements. Proton's map lets people see how widespread the camera network is in their area.
Why now: Growing public concern over Flock Safety's license plate reader network and privacy advocates pushing back against mass surveillance.
