RAF Chinooks to fight wildfires for first time

Original: chinook

Royal Air Force Chinook helicopters are being deployed to help fight wildfires in the United Kingdom for the first time, according to FlightGlobal. The move marks a new role for the military transport aircraft, which will support civil authorities tackling blazes as prolonged dry weather raises fire risk across the country.

Why now: Unusually dry conditions and a rise in wildfire incidents in the UK have prompted the first military deployment of this kind.
