Hubble and Webb reveal distant solar system objects' ancient past
Original: Hubble and Webb find that far-out # solarsystem objects 'remember' the past Used # NASA 's Hubble & # JWST to study some
Astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope have studied trans-Neptunian objects, icy bodies orbiting beyond Neptune. The surveys found fewer small objects than models predicted, and the objects' colors followed unexpected patterns that appear to preserve clues about conditions in the early solar system, effectively letting these distant bodies 'remember' their formation era.
Why now: New findings from Hubble and JWST challenge existing models of how small icy bodies formed in the outer solar system.
