Descendant of Japanese incarceration urges lessons of Manzanar
Original: The Guardian: A child of Japanese incarceration’s call to arms: ‘The lessons of Manzanar have never been more urgent’ Ho
A child of Japanese Americans incarcerated during the Second World War has issued what The Guardian calls a call to arms, saying the lessons of the Manzanar camp in California have never been more urgent. The piece centres on a rebuilt historic baseball diamond at the site, which the author describes as embodying the contradictions in America's legacy of detaining its own citizens.
Why now: The restored baseball field at the former incarceration camp has drawn renewed attention to that history and its present-day relevance.
