European governments urged to prepare for scorching summers
Original: European governments need to ‘prepare systematically’ for scorching summers ahead
European governments are being warned to 'prepare systematically' for increasingly intense summer heat, as experts argue that recurring scorching summers can no longer be treated as exceptional events. The call reflects growing concern that heat planning, emergency response and infrastructure adaptation across the continent remain inadequate for the extremes expected in the years ahead.
Why now: Concern over intensifying summer heatwaves and Europe's readiness for them is resurfacing as calls grow for systematic government preparation.
