Lewis Hamilton has welcomed Formula 1's return to Africa and used the moment to call for freedom for Congo, Sudan and Palestine, according to The Athletic. The British driver paired his support for the sport expanding back to the continent with a pointed political message about ongoing conflicts, drawing attention to humanitarian crises that have received uneven global coverage.

Why now: Formula 1's planned return to African soil is major news for the sport, and Hamilton's political remarks add controversy that fuels discussion.
