Uminosea makes sumo history with new san'yaku debut in Kyushu

Original: 朝翠龍

Sumo wrestler Uminosea, now competing under the new ring name Asasairyu, is making headlines after becoming the first wrestler from his prefecture to reach sumo's new three-rank san'yaku positions, completing the set for all 47 prefectures. Speaking ahead of the Kyushu tournament, he said he hopes his achievement can give courage to children across Japan.

Why now: His historic promotion to the new san'yaku ranks at the Kyushu basho marks a first for the final of Japan's 47 prefectures.
