Original: ノロッコ号

Japanese police have arrested a member of a train photography group on suspicion of cutting down a tree along railway tracks in Hokkaido, allegedly because it blocked the view of the Norokko sightseeing train. A V-shaped cut mark was reportedly found on the tree beside the tracks. The suspect is said to have told investigators the tree was an obstruction, and the case has drawn attention to rising conflicts involving obsessive railway photography.

Why now: The arrest highlights ongoing friction between railway enthusiasts and operators, a hot topic in Japan.
