The MorpHex, a shape-shifting hexapod robot, is drawing attention for its ability to walk on six legs and then morph into a spherical form to roll like a ball. The demonstration, shared widely among robotics and emerging-tech commentators, showcases unusually versatile locomotion for a hobby-scale robot, prompting discussion about what such transformable designs could mean for future robotics.
Why now: The robot's unusual ability to switch between walking and rolling locomotion is a striking engineering feat that robotics enthusiasts are sharing.
