Brown student maps hidden global labor powering AI
Original: Brown student maps the hidden global labor powering AI
A Brown University student has produced research mapping the largely invisible worldwide workforce behind artificial intelligence, including data annotators, content moderators and low-paid labeling workers often based in developing countries. The project highlights the human labor underpinning AI systems that is rarely acknowledged by the industry, drawing attention to working conditions and pay across the global supply chain.
Why now: Growing public concern about the hidden human workers behind AI systems has made research exposing this labor newly relevant.
