Congress Moves to Separate Veterans Day and Memorial Day
Original: Veterans Day and Memorial Day Got Tangled, So Congress Pulled Them Apart
Congress has acted to clarify the distinction between Veterans Day and Memorial Day, two federal observances that have become conflated in public understanding. Memorial Day honors military personnel who died in service, while Veterans Day recognizes all who have served. Lawmakers moved to formally pull the two holidays apart after years of mix-ups, and coverage of the legislative step is drawing attention to how Americans observe both days.
Why now: A congressional action clarifying two widely confused national holidays is drawing fresh public interest.
