The oldest GUI app that still runs on Windows 11
Original: Oldest GUI application that still runs on Windows 11
A developer has documented what is claimed to be the oldest graphical user interface application that still runs on Windows 11, tracing how far back a working Windows program can date while remaining usable on a modern system. Readers have been discussing the finding, trading memories of early Windows software and noting the backwards compatibility that lets decades-old executables launch unchanged on current machines.
Why now: Windows' famously long backwards compatibility is a source of nostalgia and technical fascination, so a concrete example of ancient software still working gets attention.
