Solar power overtakes nuclear as a global energy source
Original: Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
Solar power has grown to the point where it now rivals, and in some measures exceeds, nuclear energy worldwide. Rapid cost declines and massive deployment of panels are driving the shift, while nuclear capacity has remained largely flat for decades. Commentators are debating what this milestone means for the future of electricity grids, decarbonisation targets and investment in nuclear technology.
Why now: New reporting highlights a symbolic milestone in the global energy transition, prompting debate over solar versus nuclear.
