New York wildlife plan includes plants but omits apex predators
Original: New NYS Wildlife Action Plan includes plants, but leaves out apex predators
New York State has released a revised Wildlife Action Plan that notably expands its scope to include plants, but leaves out apex predators such as large carnivores. The omission is drawing attention from conservation advocates, who argue that top predators are key to ecosystem health and should be part of the state's long-term wildlife strategy.
Why now: Conservationists are debating whether the state's flagship wildlife strategy adequately protects top predators and ecosystems.
