UN-backed inquiry says Israel committing genocide in Gaza
Original: UN-sponsored probe accuses Israel of ongoing Gaza genocide, West Bank crimes against humanity
A United Nations-sponsored commission of inquiry has accused Israel of carrying out genocide in Gaza and of committing crimes against humanity in the occupied West Bank. The finding, reported by Israeli and international media, marks one of the strongest formal accusations levelled against Israel by a UN body since the Gaza war began. Israeli officials have consistently rejected such allegations, arguing its military actions are self-defence.
Why now: The accusation is a significant escalation in international legal and diplomatic pressure over Israel's conduct in Gaza and the West Bank.
