Major irruption of eastern nuthatches in Finland this autumn
Original: [Ornithomedia] Irruption majeure de Sittelles torchepots orientales en Finlande durant l’automne 2026 Lien : https://www
Ornithomedia reports a major irruption of the eastern subspecies of the Eurasian nuthatch (Sitta europaea) into Finland during autumn 2026. These movements happen when food shortages, such as failing seed and cone crops, push birds far outside their normal range. Birdwatchers and nature observers in Finland are recording unusually high numbers of the species.
Why now: Birding communities are sharing the news because large irruptions of this species are rare and notable for conservation and observation.
