Premier League betting shirt ban leaves Sheffield United loophole open

Original: Premier League betting shirt ban: Sheffield United’s Championship option stays wide open for online casinos

Premier League clubs have agreed to ban gambling sponsors from the front of match shirts, but the restriction does not extend to the Championship. Sheffield United, who move between the two divisions, remain free to strike a shirt deal with online casinos if they are playing in the second tier. Critics say the loophole undermines the ban's purpose.

Why now: The Premier League's gambling sponsor ban has been confirmed, and attention is on the exemption that still applies to Championship clubs like Sheffield United.
