Alvin Tedjo elected mayor of Mississauga
Original: New mayor elected for Mississauga! Alvin Tedjo is just the 4th mayor of Mississauga since 1978. That's quite historic. #
Voters in Mississauga, Ontario have elected Alvin Tedjo as their new mayor. He becomes only the fourth person to hold the office since 1978, a period largely defined by long-serving mayor Hazel McCallion. Commenters are calling the result historic given how rarely the city's top job has changed hands in more than four decades.
Why now: A new mayor taking over an office held by only four people since 1978 marks a rare political transition in Canada's seventh-largest city.
