Boston Dynamics workers petition against ICE robot dog sale
Original: ICE wants robot dogs. Boston Dynamics' workers urge company to 'cancel the sale'
Employees at Boston Dynamics are urging the company to cancel a sale of its robotic dogs to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The petition, reported by WBUR, follows the Department of Homeland Security's interest in acquiring the quadruped robots. The workers' protest has revived debate over how the robotics firm's technology should be used by government agencies.
Why now: The conflict between a marquee robotics company and its own workforce over law enforcement use of its robots is drawing attention to the ethics of such sales.
