Original: The Crucible, West Oakland’s Industrial Arts Hub, Shuts Down Suddenly
The Crucible, a well-known nonprofit industrial arts school in West Oakland offering classes in welding, glasswork, ceramics and metal fabrication, has shut down abruptly. The closure ends a roughly two-decade run as one of the Bay Area's largest creative learning spaces, leaving students, artists and staff without warning about ongoing classes and programs.
Why now: The sudden, unexpected closure of a beloved community arts institution has caught Oakland's arts community off guard.
