Netanyahu faces Israeli voters in first election since October 7
Original: Netanyahu faces Israeli voters in first election since Oct. 7 and Gaza war
Israelis are voting in the country's first national election since the Hamas-led attack of October 7, 2023, and the ensuing war in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in power through the conflict, is seeking to hold onto office as voters weigh his government's handling of the war, the hostages, and the country's security and political future.
Why now: The election is the first public verdict on Netanyahu's leadership since the October 7 attack and the Gaza war, making the outcome highly consequential.
