NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center has released an animation illustrating that wildfire smoke behaves as a mixture of gases and suspended aerosols rather than a single cloud. The visualisation shows how the PACE satellite collects orbital data on light scattering, helping scientists track smoke plumes as they travel through the atmosphere.

Why now: Wildfire smoke and satellite monitoring are topical as fires affect air quality worldwide
