Battle of the Schelde comes back to life in Woensdrecht exhibition
Original: wereldoorlog
An exhibition in Woensdrecht, the Netherlands, is drawing attention by bringing the Battle of the Schelde back to life through war photographs, model aircraft and genuine wreckage from the Second World War. The display highlights the region's wartime history, when fierce fighting in 1944 was needed to open the Schelde estuary and liberate access to the port of Antwerp.
Why now: Local interest in Second World War history and commemorations of the Battle of the Schelde keeps the topic in circulation in the Netherlands.
