Spain deports African and Asian asylum seekers to Morocco amid outcry
Original: Spain deports African, Asian asylum seekers to Morocco amid rights group outcry
Spain has deported African and Asian asylum seekers to Morocco, according to a Reuters report. The deportations have drawn condemnation from human rights groups, who object to migrants being sent to a country that is not their own and may be denied the chance to claim asylum in Spain. The move highlights ongoing friction over migration policy on the Spain-Morocco route.
Why now: Human rights organisations are publicly criticising Spain's deportation practice, drawing fresh attention to EU migration and asylum obligations.
