Pet owners honour dead animals on Day of the Dead
Original: Day of the Dead for pets
Mexican Day of the Dead traditions are being extended to pets, with owners building small altars for deceased dogs and cats alongside those for family members. The practice, shared widely online, includes photos, toys, treats and candles for animals that have died, and has prompted debate over whether pets belong on ofrendas.
Why now: The Day of the Dead season prompts pet owners to share tributes to deceased animals and debate how the tradition should adapt.
