Ukraine partners with Nokia and ICEYE on Starlink alternative
Original: For Starlink alternative, Ukraine partners with Nokia and satellite maker ICEYE
Ukraine has partnered with Nokia and Finnish satellite company ICEYE to develop an alternative to Elon Musk's Starlink for battlefield and civilian connectivity. The move follows ongoing concerns in Kyiv about reliance on a single US provider for critical wartime communications. Observers see the deal as part of Ukraine's broader push to diversify its satellite and telecom infrastructure with European partners.
Why now: Ukraine's reliance on Starlink amid wartime communications needs and uncertainty over US support keeps interest high in alternatives.
