Trump claims US voter fraud is rampant despite evidence
Original: Trump says US voter fraud is 'rampant' - evidence suggests it is extremely rare
Donald Trump has said voter fraud in the United States is 'rampant'. The claim contradicts the available evidence, as studies and election officials have consistently found voter fraud to be extremely rare. The remarks are drawing criticism from fact-checkers and voting-rights advocates, who note there is no basis for describing fraud as widespread in US elections.
Why now: A former president making an unsubstantiated claim about voter fraud keeps elections and election integrity at the centre of public debate.
