Nithya Raman Emerges as Los Angeles Mayoral Contender
Original: Nithya Raman Is Not L.A.’s Mamdani. But She Might Become Mayor, Too.
The New York Times draws a comparison between Los Angeles councilwoman Nithya Raman and Zohran Mamdani, the New York politician whose insurgent campaign drew national attention. The piece argues that while Raman is not a direct equivalent, her progressive profile could position her to become mayor of Los Angeles, adding her to speculation about the city's next mayoral race and the broader rise of left-leaning Democrats.
Why now: A high-profile national outlet is framing Raman as a potential mayoral winner in the mold of Mamdani's rise, fueling speculation about the L.A. race.
