China's first large-scale robot skills expo opened at Southeast University in Nanjing, with 51 companies presenting more than 100 robots of various shapes and sizes. Dozens of the machines were shown moving in sync, a display of coordination capabilities that most international showcases, which typically feature only one or two robots at a time, have not matched.

Why now: The sheer scale of coordinated robots on display highlights the rapid pace of China's robotics development and is drawing wide attention.
