Northwest Greenland Ice Sheet stability during MIS 3 reassessed

Original: Rosenberg et al present compelling evidence, based on inherited cosmogenic ¹⁴C in bedrock, that the northwest Greenland

New research by Rosenberg and colleagues uses inherited cosmogenic carbon-14 measured in bedrock to argue that the northwest Greenland Ice Sheet likely occupied a configuration similar to today's during much of Marine Isotope Stage 3. Their data also indicate the ice sheet's Late Glacial Maximum advance came late, possibly as recently as 20,000 years ago, reshaping ideas about its past behaviour.

Why now: Scientists are discussing the finding that Greenland's ice sheet history may have been more stable than assumed, which matters for projections of future ice loss.
