FEC campaign finance filings website goes down before midterms
Original: FEC campaign finance filings website experiences outage ahead of midterm elections
The Federal Election Commission's campaign finance filings website experienced an outage less than two weeks before the US midterm elections, according to multiple local news outlets. The timing raised concerns because candidates and committees rely on the system to file pre-election disclosures of donations and spending. Officials had not immediately explained the cause or said when full access would be restored.
Why now: The outage hit during the critical pre-election filing period when campaigns must submit finance disclosures, making transparency and access a timely concern.
