Android 18: Google restricts apps' access to contacts
Original: Android 18: Google dichtet Zugriff auf Kontakte weiter ab Mehr Sicherheit: Google wird den meisten Apps unter Android 18
Google will stop most Android apps from writing directly to users' contact data under Android 18, tightening access to the address book in the name of better security. The change means apps that currently add or modify contact entries will need new approved pathways or user permission, reducing the risk of misuse of contact data. The move is being discussed as another step in Google's broader effort to lock down sensitive permissions in Android.
Why now: Google's announcement of stricter contact-write permissions in the upcoming Android 18 release is fresh and affects many apps and developers.
