ICE Accused of Surveillance of Left-Wing Activists
Original: ICE surveillance of left-wing activists
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is being accused of monitoring left-wing activists and political organisers. Critics say the agency's surveillance of people engaged in lawful political activity raises serious civil liberties concerns and marks an escalation in the government's treatment of dissent. Supporters of tighter immigration enforcement have not widely addressed the specific claims, while rights groups are calling for oversight and transparency about what data is being collected and why.
Why now: Fresh allegations that a federal immigration agency is targeting domestic political activists have sparked concern over civil liberties and government overreach.
