Possible New Dwarf Planet Spotted Beyond Pluto
Original: new dwarf planet
Researchers have identified a possible new dwarf planet orbiting in the distant reaches of the solar system, beyond Pluto's path. The object was detected far from the sun in the outer Kuiper Belt region. If confirmed, it would join Pluto, Eris, Makemake and Haumea in the dwarf planet category. Astronomers say further observation is needed before the discovery is officially recognized by the International Astronomical Union.
Why now: Fresh astronomical discovery news is attracting broad public and media interest.
