Varoufakis warns Europe is becoming a US vassal
Original: Yanis Varoufakis: US-Russia Reconciliation & European Vassalage
Former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis argues that US-Russia reconciliation efforts are exposing Europe's dependence on Washington, leaving EU governments marginalised in negotiations over their own security. He claims European states are acting as vassals, following American positions on Ukraine and Russia without an independent strategy of their own.
Why now: Ongoing US diplomacy toward Russia has reignited debate about Europe's lack of strategic autonomy.
