Iowa governor declares disaster over Sac County bird flu outbreak
Original: Iowa governor declares disaster proclamation for bird flu outbreak in Sac County
Iowa's governor has issued a disaster proclamation for Sac County following an outbreak of highly pathogenic bird flu. The declaration activates state emergency response measures to help contain the virus, which typically requires the culling of affected poultry flocks and heightened biosecurity. The proclamation comes as avian influenza continues to spread among poultry operations across the Midwest, raising concerns about supply and egg prices.
Why now: A state disaster declaration over avian influenza signals a significant outbreak affecting poultry and food supply concerns.
