Google AI Search Won't Say Who Won the 2020 Election
Original: Google AI Search Refuses to Say Who Won the 2020 Election
Google's AI-powered search is declining to answer who won the 2020 US presidential election, leaving users without a direct response to a question with a settled answer: Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump. The behaviour is being linked to safeguards meant to limit election misinformation, but critics argue refusing a factual answer undermines trust. Discussion is focused on whether AI assistants should hedge on well-established election results.
Why now: People are debating whether Google's AI safety filters on election questions are excessive or justified.
