Springfield, Ohio, is reported to be losing many of its Haitian residents after the Trump administration canceled their temporary protected status. With immigrants confined to their homes or leaving the city altogether, local observers describe the situation bluntly — 'there are no people' — and say the local economy has taken a noticeable hit as workers and consumers disappear from the community.

Why now: The end of temporary protected status for Haitians is having visible local economic effects, drawing attention to immigration policy's impact on US towns.
