Two Republicans Face Off in California's 40th District

Original: Two Republicans are facing off for CA-40. How are Democratic voters approaching the race?

Two Republicans are competing in the race for California's 40th Congressional District, leaving Democratic voters weighing how to approach a general-election contest without a Democratic candidate on the ballot. Under California's top-two primary system, the two candidates who advance can belong to the same party, forcing members of the other party to decide whether to sit out, back the lesser of two options, or cross party lines.

Why now: California's top-two primary system has produced a same-party matchup, raising questions about how Democratic voters will respond.
