Japan's Defense Ministry tracks Chinese coast guard Pacific move

Original: 防衛省

Japan's Defense Ministry has revealed for the first time that Chinese coast guard vessels sailed into the Pacific together with Chinese navy ships, passing waters near Kagoshima. The disclosure comes as defense officials also face debate over the government's three key security documents, due to be finalized by year's end, with attention on the Three Non-Nuclear Principles and whether Japan should consider nuclear-powered submarines under Prime Minister Takaichi's policies.

Why now: Growing concern over Chinese naval activity near Japan and imminent decisions on the security documents are drawing attention to the Defense Ministry.
