Texas police shield immigration enforcement records from public view
Original: A wall of secrecy: Texas police shield immigration enforcement records
Texas law enforcement agencies are withholding records related to their role in immigration enforcement, according to reporting by KXAN Austin. The investigation describes a wall of secrecy around documents that would normally show how local police cooperate with federal immigration authorities, raising questions about transparency and public accountability in the state's enforcement practices.
Why now: Ongoing national debate over immigration enforcement and police transparency keeps scrutiny on Texas agencies' cooperation with federal authorities
