Why black cats are linked to Halloween
Original: chat noir
French media are revisiting the bad reputation of black cats ahead of Halloween, tracing it back to the Middle Ages, when the animals were associated with witches and superstition. Articles explain that this medieval fear is the root of the modern custom of featuring black cats in Halloween imagery, a symbol that persists across France and beyond.
Why now: Halloween is approaching, prompting seasonal coverage of black cats and their superstitions.
