Senate weighs bill on college athlete pay and transfers
Original: Senate tackles college sports' 'endless free agency,' athlete pay; House passage uncertain
The Senate is taking up legislation aimed at college sports' so-called endless free agency and how athletes are paid, but passage in the House remains uncertain. Lawmakers are weighing rules on athlete transfers and compensation as college athletics grapples with the NIL era and repeated conference realignments. Whether the bill can clear both chambers is far from clear.
Why now: Congress is stepping into the unsettled landscape of college athlete compensation and transfer rules, a fast-moving issue for schools and athletes.
