Bottled water and tinned food sales surge in UK

Original: panic buying

UK supermarkets are reporting sharp increases in sales of bottled water and tinned food after the government issued emergency stockpile advice to households. Retailers say shoppers have been stocking up on long-life essentials, echoing patterns seen during past supply disruptions. Officials have urged people to prepare for potential emergencies, and the guidance has quickly translated into a visible wave of panic buying across the country.

Why now: The government's new emergency stockpile advice has prompted shoppers to rush to buy essential supplies.
